Sometimes it pays to get up early! I spotted this potential eye-catching composition one afternoon returning to the condo after a good day of skiing. The treed islands in icy Lake Dillon as a foreground for these snow capped mountains looked promising. So, I set the alarm early the next morning, got myself up, drove to this area, found the spot to set my tripod, waited and shot a number of exposures as the sun began illuminating the morning. Of the shots, this (one of the early ones) turned out the best. The colorful sky only lasted for around 5 minutes. I stood around in the 11 degree F temperature for over an hour that morning hoping for the sun to really illuminate the east faces of these peaks and create some added interest. Unfortunately, that morning it didn't happen. Still, I'm pretty happy with this capture. Later in the day we were on the road back home to Omaha. There's always next year.
